FLOSS Presentation

Scot Henderson made another great presentation at our weekly KLUG meeting.  The topic, FLOSS or Free Libre Open Source software was very interesting and informative.  We learned the difference between Free and non-free software in the GNU/Linux world.  Scot introduced us to vrms (virtual Richard M Stallman); https://scottlinux.com/2014/02/19/find-non-free-software-installed-on-your-debian-machine/ … an apt that will detect any non-free software on a Debian system.  Scot also demonstrated a little C programming using the editor, VIM – http://www.vim.org/

KLUG Meeting November 10th 2015

Scot Henderson demonstrated the 3D printer that he built at home at our Tuesday night meeting.  We also welcomed six new folks to our meeting to learn about the Linux operating system and the Open Source community and we gave two Dell desktop computers (with Linux Puppy installed) away last night so they could become more familiar with Linux.

KLUG Meeting Oct. 21 – Basic Network Security

Klug Meeting 10_21_14Charles  Stemaly presented a brief introduction to basic networking, followed by a demonstration on finding other connected systems connected to the local LAN network using Linux commands and by using tools like NMap and Wireshark, all from within the Kali Linux distribution (www.kali.org).

We then scanned a couple of websites using Nikto, which is a Website Vulnerability Assessment tool (https://www.cirt.net/Nikto2).
