Does you machine have a "sleep" mode?~

Try "man kbdrate",  it is used to set the repeat parameters of the keyboard
driver.  If that doesn't fix it it is probably something flaky with the PS/2
controller chip,  is this a Compaq machine?

You might try setting it with the xset command,  but if restarting X~
doesn't help, then that is unlikely to work.

I know the feeling.

I've had this happen to older machines when they come out of APM sleep,  in
the future try disableing APM, just to see if the problem goes away.  That
is, if you have APM in the first place.
