Re: Lexmark printer
Thnaks to Bruce for catching my typo. Perfect example of the group being
better than any one person when we catch each others mistakes.
Mike Writes....

Hey folks, there's a PILE of printer drivers out there... don't feel you
have to confine yourself to the stuff written by the manufacturers... do a
little searching! A few minutes of such turns up:
http://www.studet.fh-muenster.de/~kornblum/Lexmark2070.html
Which looks like a pair of drivers for the 2070, one black and white, the
other color. Now, I won't even pretend to know if these will work on your
printer, Mike, but I also won't pretend that I've done anything like a
complete search! Unless someone can say that the printers clearly use a
different protocol (and I claim ya can't unless you KNOW, since the
protocol is proprietary!), it might just be worth a try... especially if
no other alternative surfaces with more searching.
Folks, this is the free software world. We don't nessesarily rely on the
manufacturers to provide software... let's look a little more broadly
before we give up. Many devices (printers especially) provide at least
some upward compatibility in their product lines; a low-end driver can be
used on some high end printers, even with reduced capabilities.

No way! I give up! :))
Seriously....

You must visit the SANE (Scanner Ascces Now Easy) project site. They
support most SCSI scanners very nicely, and they are exapnding their
attention to parellel port and USB devices. They do good stuff, so go
to:
http://www.mostang.com/sane
and you might do just fine. There may be other efforts underway on some
scanners, but poking around on the net (in addition to asking here) is
always a good idea.

Nah!
