FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 17th, 2000 Linux Days!
Kalamazoo, MI, 1-25-99--The Kalamazoo Linux Users Group (KLUG) is holding Linux Days at the Kalamazoo
Public Library at 315 South Rose in beautiful downtown Kalamazoo from 1200 noon to 500 PM on Thursday,
February 17. Several computers will be displayed running Linux with applications ranging from business software, to
games and multimedia, to a complete set of Internet tools.
Linux is a compact, fast, and extremely stable computer Operating System (OS) based on the open source
development model. Linux is backed by industry giants such as IBM, Intel, Hewlett Packard and Dell. Linux was used
in the Mars Pathfinder mission where the remote "Sojourner" explored the planet Mars. It has been used to create the
special effects for the blockbuster movie "Titanic". Several of the 500 fastest computers in the world run Linux. Yet,
it can be used on personal computers and is available pre-installed from several computer manufactures including Dell
and Gateway. Linux can also be downloaded for free from the Internet, purchased from Linux distribution companies
and retail stores. Many books about Linux have a copy of the system included. Linux is the operating system with the
fastest growing audience in the world, more than doubling every year. KLUG helps distribute different versions of
Linux as well as some of the more useful Linux applications.
KLUG is a non-profit organization of Linux users and IT professionals in Western Michigan. Among its many
activities, KLUG promotes Linux use and assists those using it. The Linux Days demonstration will show businesses
and the public that there is real choice in operating systems.
We are proud and happy to announce this as another in a long line of events sponsored by KLUG! Come on
out and see what your computer is really can do!
