Re: Window managers
Following the advice of KLUG gurus, I've tried to install xfce to no avail
so far. Let me bore you with my attempts:
1. I found a version of xfce on Bruce Smith's own BSware6.1 as an rpm and
installed it. Meanwhile I had been looking at the xfce site and found
that there was a version released in Dec., after I had gotten my BSware6.1
cdrom, so I downloaded the rpm and updated the xfce. I set the
environmental variables LANG to "en" and XFCE_DATA to /usr/share.
I ran xfce_setup. I ran xfce which would do nothing without X11 being up
and when I ran xfce in the default window manager, now GNOME rather than
kde which was my former default, I get some xfce icons on the desktop but
they were not functional.
What did I do wrong? I want to get a slim window manager both for my old
166MHz,16M-ram beast and to use in schools on even slower machines with
less ram.
Looking forward to your wisdom, Ralph deal@kzoo.edu,
