Meeting 03-14-2000 - Configuring PPP the old fashioned way.
After much nagging from the KLUG program director, Bruce agreed to give
a much dreaded talk about configuring PPP from scratch, including the
demand dialing option. :)
Back before there were GUI configuration screens and fancy PPP dialers
like are included with KDE and Gnome, PPP had to be configured from
scratch editing config files an writing chat scripts. This way of
configuring PPP gives you more control on the configuration, letting you
add advanced features like demand dialing or even running a PPP server.
Bruce will show how he has done this with his home network, hopefully
demonstrating this is not as difficult as some new users perceive it to
be.
Bruce Smith is a Systems Administrator and Software Developer for
Armstrong International Inc. where he is responsible for a HP-UX network
of Servers, Workstations, printers and X-Terminals spanning five
buildings in Three Rivers. Bruce has a degree in Computer Science and
Mathematics from Central Michigan University. (go Chips! :) Bruce runs
Linux, almost exclusively, on all his PC's at work and home, and runs a
lot of Armstrong's networking services on Linux!
