Re: Help! Networking
My suggestion: get a 3rd computer: a cheesy 486 with 16 or 323mb of RAM, no
hard disk and one floppy disk drive. Surf to www.coyotelinux.com and
download the freebie Linux distribution, or buy the commercial windows
program. use either to build a boot floppy for your 486, then use the 486 as
a gateway instead of your win98 machines. Then use that instead of winproxy.
I expected a major holy war/crusade getting my gateway going, it was duck
soup because coyote linux works so well.
disclaimer: i'm using my 486 with a cable modem, a dial-up line could be a
lot harder. I found getting demand dialing and ip masq a lot harder to get
working. Nevertheless, I got invaluable help from the regulars who haunt
this list, especially Bruce Smith. Thanks again guys.
