Re: this confused me a little
Some of the shells have built in capability to check mail. They are usually
going to look at the /var/spool/mail/root (/usr/spool/mail/root on some systems
although in most distributions I have seen, the /usr/spool is a symbolic link).
Whether or not your 'favorite' mail program is set to read this folder as root
is going to be dependant upon the program and how it was configured. (i.e. by
you or as part of the defaults in the distribution)
