Re: K Icon Editer?

Here we go... ready? You are going to:

LEAVE THE GUI ENVIRONMENT!

1. Hit the keys <CTRL>+<F2> (or any of the Function keys up to
"F6" on your average system.) This will take you to another "
"terminal" different from the one you're running KDE on.

2. Login, either as yourself or root, it's up to you (probably) root
will definitely be able to do it, whereas the user you're running the
KDE under *should* be able to do what needs to be done.

3. Type the command "ps -ax" and press enter. (Do I need to tell
you about the quotes?) If the output from this is too much, add
type "ps -ax | less" instead. This lists all the processes running on
your box. Locate the one that is the icon editor and make a note
of the number in the left hand column of the output. This is the
process ID, or "pid". If you use the less command you just press
"q" to exit it ad return to the command prompt.

4. Type the command "kill #" where # is replaced with the pid you
should have made a note of in step 3. This will tell linux to stop
running that process. You can repeat the "ps -ax" command to
confirm that it is, indeed, "killed".

5. Hit the keys <CTRL>+<F7> to return to the terminal that is
running KDE... you should see everything being happy now. I hope.

There are probably about fifty other ways of doing it, not counting
minor variations on the way I've described, many most definitely
being better, but hey, I'm a newbie at this too.

Alternatively, you could try hitting that littel "Kill" icon that's on your
KDE desktop and placing the changed mouse pointer over the
offending Icon editor's windows and left-clicking, but I think learning
the command stuff is more satisfying and when your proficiency
with them increases, infinitely more powerful. Heck, it's a
repeatable problem, try both ways.

As far as correcting the problem with the resizing bit... I'm not sure.
That's a bit beyond my area of knowledge as of yet. Knowing the
content of the error message would be helpful to those more
knowledgeable than myself though.

(I hardly ever have anything to contribute to this list as I'm learning,
so if any of the Linux veterans would care to comment on the
accuracy and/or quality of this attempt I would appreciate it.)
