JBuilder3.5 and Linux

I have JBuilder3.5 up and running on my SuSE box at home. I have a java 
program that inputs a file, makes changes, etc.... The problem is

the user is prompted to enter the location of the input file. On a win 
machine it would something like a:\input.txt (the program works fine)

when I run the same program on my Linux box I type the location and then 
press enter and it just hangs. What is the exact syntax I should use to 
enter that file location? Any other ideas?
