SGA Monitors
As is delightfully often the case, the net provided a great deal of
information describing how I might better my connection, ah, to... the net.
Hm.
Anyway. Yes, older Matroces do indeed have "sync on green," though that was
an unsupported feature of the Texas Inst. RAMDAC Matrox used. All I need is
a VGA-BNC video cable (preferably cheap as heck). I have timings from HP
engineers posted to the mailing list port-hp.
As for X versus console. The Sony Trinitron-based HP uses basic hardware
that has a fized freq. for certain video sizes--common ones, as it turns
out (as common == cheap, very often). This applies to the hardware for
graphics modes and console modes. So, pending final judgement when I get the
new video cable, I think I'm set. Thanks for the help!
(If I start posting from another machine, then you'll know I fell back on
Plan B, also found on the net, which involves two transistors and a Gate XOR
to redirect the horiz and vert synchs; ending up with the results we have
come to expect when we fall back on Plan B....)
