Fortran + SUSE in English

Re: Fortran for Linux.

Here's a web page that covers the two dozen or more commercial and non commmercial versions of Fortran for Linux:

http://studbolt.physast.uga.edu/templon/fortran.html

The standard GNU distribution translates the Fortran source to C.

Re: SUSE installation.

I've installed several recent (6.1, 6.2) versions of SUSE Linux without any German language problems, as long as I specified English right at the beginning of using the YAST install program. The installation was very easy and straightforward. It also caught a few of the hardware nuances that RedHat 6.1 didn't on the same machine - an ABIT BP-6 dual CPU motherboard with Rage 128 AGP video card. The SUSE Linux did put on a number of non-English documentation files that I did not need, but which were easy to remove. What I don't know of German would fill many books.
