I've ordered DSL through BigNet.Net, which is blatantly OS 
independent, which is very nice.  They setup the DSL "modem" and the 
rest is your problem, just the way it should be.

Is a floppy firewall for use with such things as Cable Modems and DSL. 
 It appears to be a scaled down verion of LRP (Linux Router Project).
