Another, not entirely related thing, that has increased stability for me on
busy-boxes is to increase /proc/sys/fs/file-max and inode-max which allows the
system to have more open files and inodes. The default is 4096/7672, I've
needed to increase that to 8192 or 16384 (file-max) and 15344 (inode-max) in
order to get some, particulary graphics intensive, programs to behave. This
could be because my system has multiple X users (i.e. lotsa lotsa open files)
but the cost is so minimal (I think about 50k) that I'd recommend it for anyone
who pushes their box.

This has actually been discussed on this list by Netscape's Matt Crampton if I
recall correctly.
