That's true, but it still seems like it should keep individual settings
in the user's home directory.

It wrote it to /home/x in Redhat 6.1. I don't know where it wrote
the settings on RH 6.2 before I mucked with the PAM file.
I don't remember exactly what I changed in the PAM file, but I can
find out. It seems like it was a very simple change.
