Trouble with the MBR
During my installation of Linux, the system crashed.
I don't know if this has anything to do with my boot
problem or not, but I'm passing it on as info.
Now, if I boot without a boot floppy, the system gets
to lilo and prints "LI" and stops. Never to return.
If I boot with a boot floppy, I can log in and
function
normally. (Or so it appears.)
I have run lilo several times with several different
options and nothing helps. I was going to reinstall
Linux, but I can't even figure out how to do that.
It appears that lilo makes a copy of the current MBR
and merges it with the new boot record. This would
seem to be a problem if the current boot record is
corrupt.
Any ideas that might be helpful?
