What version of X does SuSe install? You comment about the file format
changes makes me wonder if they are running 4.0.x.

The grumbling were about PCI cards, the PCMCIA cards are probably completely
unrelated. Do you have the PCMCIA package installed? If the cards is in the
machine when you boot does it get mentioned in dmesg, you can view these
messages again with the "dmesg" command.
These cards are listed as supported:
Linksys EtherCard
Linksys PCMPC100 EtherFast 10/100 (pcnet_cs driver)
Linksys PCMPC200 EtherFast CardBus (tulip_cb driver)
Linksys LANmodem 28.8 (PCMLM28), 33.6 (PCMLM336) (pcnet_cs driver)
Linksys EtherFast LANmodem 56K (PCMLM56) (pcnet_cs driver)
The above list was compiled on 7/30/1999, so there may be more recent version of
the same cards, but possibly more recent drivers as well. Some manufacturers
change their cards at will, but keep the same model number. Linksys is one of
them.
