This is a Perl script that serves as a front-end to your ripper and encoder
of choice, using CDDB to look up CD's and automatically add ID3 tags.

For the actual encoding, I think LAME has the best speed and quality:

I should also note that Ogg Vorbis is getting faster every day, has prebuilt
plugins for playback under Windows and Linux, and already sounds as good or
better than MP3's encoded with LAME. Check it out at
