I worked with a system similair to this at a Good Year service center. A
"bulletin board" of all the current jobs, they can just scan the par code (never
touching the card) and all that gets nasty is the wand (which doesn't really
matter). Since it's optical it's less flaky than magnetic stripe, if you smart
you can configure air flow over the board from outside the shop and not too much
dust will accumulate.
This is a much better idea than the swiper, good thinking Dan!
