Have you checked to make sure your routing tables are correct? On Red Hat you
can check this by executing the command /sbin/route (not sure about Corel, but
it's probably the same). If you know how to read the routing table, you
should be able to tell if you can reach the other host (in theory).
Here is my table on the computer I am using to send this message:

192.168.1.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0

This box is 192.168.1.2. Any IP of the form 192.168.1.* can be reached
directly, and any other IP #s can only be gotten to by going through floppyfw
(the firewall).
If you don't understand IP routing, then I would suggest reading the Network
Administrator's Guide that Adam often recommends to people. You can also post
the result of that command to the list and probably get some good advice on
how to proceed.
