RE: ActiveDir / eDirectory

Novell has eDirectory (NDS) for Linux. It will interop with AD later this
year, or so I've heard. There is also an LDAP gateway to NDS, thereby
allowing non-Novell clients and apps to access data within the directory.

You can read all about it at:

http://www.novell.com/products/nds/details.html#features

According to this, it's the preferred directory for many companies,
including Red Hat.

It'll be interesting to see if the Samba team takes Active Directory on, or
if it will become a seperate project.

I am amazed at the way people are going ga-ga over AD. It's a 1.0 product!
NDS has been around for many years, works on more than just NetWare
(including NT!), and is proven. Besides NDS, you can get a lot done with
OpenLDAP on Linux for a ton of $$$ less than AD or NDS. Just see Adam's
presentation at

Just my $.02.
