that it is..it's almost too easy to install (and then throw away if you 
don't like) programs..I do wish it'd stop "recommending" gnome libs for
xmms when it runs just fine without it.

earlier this month, Troll Tech dual licensed KDE under the QPL and GPL,
thus, it now has the blessing of the High Priests of Debian.  You can
get further information (and where to get your KDE packages) from this

that's fairly typical of debian..it takes *way* too long, imo, to 
do not just the install, but all the tweaks to get things `just right'
(but that could just be me ^.^)

try dpkg --purge gdm ; the purge will wipe the package and all its config
files (including all the scripts in the appropriate /etc/rc?.d directories)
no more graphical logins ^.^
