Superblocks

Where do I find superblock information for a disk partition (ie
/dev/hda1, et al). How would I recognize it if I did find it?

I had a rather amusing time today banging my head over what I thought
was a failed hard drive, it seems to work now.  Unfortunately, I did the
bad thing and reinstalled the system.
