Wierd ppp error message
I wanted to thank the individual for his help with the "noauth" option in
/etc/ppp/options. While it solved the short term problem on my Linux box
refusing the remote ip address, it also uncovered the larger problem of route
not working properly.
Well, digging around it turns out I had stupidly run "netconfig" last
Friday when I was resetting the ip's for the work network and it had deleted
HALF of the entries in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0! After I
re-entered the missing entries, down'd the box and rebooted it, everything came
up ok!
For the newbies..... If you ever want to change your Linux box ip address on
RedHat, the ip address is located in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-????.
(???? being the name of the network card) Be carefull about what you edit in
this file... It could leave your Linux system without a functioning network
card! Im my case, it was missing entries!
Also, my second attempt at installing Squid was met with success! While I
still need to read the doc's to understand it all, I did manage to get the GM's
Vtims html application to run through the Squid server! FYI, the Vtims app we
use is served remotely over the Internet and they use some weird Java / SSL /
Telnet (Run as a Java app) combination & nonstandard port addresses.... That
was a pain to get working, but it works!
Now to make notes for a Squid presentation per Adam's suggestion. <G>
