Not overclocked. It's an AMD K6-2/300 (299?????? Hz at boot-time), it's already
got one leg in the grave. No need to press my luck.
I haven't knowingly issued any hdparm commands. I just had to do a 'man hdparm' to
find out what that means, so I think I'm safe there.

Good advice I always remember to give but never take. I have two of the same
drives on this motherboard. I can swap out the problem drive, but I'm not sure I
can duplicate the problem since it seems to happen intermittently.
That reminds me though, when I first put this system together, I couldn't get the
CD to work as a primary slave, it absolutely refused to boot. I put it on the
secondary controller as a slave and everything worked just dandy. I tried three
different CD drives, but this is probably not very relavent anyway.

I do have some spares I'll have to dig up.
Right now, anything helps. Thanks.
