My dad has one of these P.C.'s.

This is a real pain!!!  He recently took his owners manual to best buy and 
had the kid working there match up what he needed.  The P.C. has 16 on 
board, he bought 32 to give the machine the 48 it is rated for and the 
computer did not see it at all.  We have tried 2 different chips to fix this 
and have had no success.  The 16mb chip he bought at the same time he bought 
his pc is the only thing it sees.

Good luck, you are not the only one with this problem.  If you do get it to 
accept more memory, please let me know what model Compaq this is and what 
memory you used.
