First, in todays employment enviroment who have the privilage/right to dope slap
your boss. Don't feel bad, employers/corporations DO NOT truly have your best
intrests at heart.
Second, the easiest thing to reduce RAM requirement is to shutdown services you
don't really need. Web servers rarely have printers attached so shut down lpd,
if you don't need to recieve e-mail shut down sendmail, etc.... You actually
should be able to shut down just about everything other than pump (if your on a
DHCP driver network), syslog , klog, bdflush (DON'T KILL THESE THREE), and
httpd.
Third, don't run X. You can mouse enable your console by running gpm (which
probably already is running).
Fourth, Add swap
Fifth, don't run X
Sixth, See the "Performance Tuning" presentation on the KLUG site about reducing
the amount of RAM dedicated to caching to the disk.
Seventh, get your RAM back or find another job.
