gcc & make are both RPM's on ALL BSware (Redhat) CD's.
And both get installed during a _custom_ install if you
select the "development" option, along with a bunch of other
RPM's needed to compile the kernel. I hate telling people to
re-install, but it may save you time in the long run if you
don't know what RPM's are needed to compile the kernel.
(I can't list them all off the top of my head either)
