What kind of connection?  I would assume a ppp connection throug a modem.

Lets start with the output of the following commands.

/bin/netstat -nr
/sbin/ifconfig
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Also, are you trying to connect to a proxy server or a specific webserver (httpd
server)?  on the internet or some lan.  Can you ping internal hosts and external
hosts.

I have never used lynx, but I'm sure the concept is very much the same.
