It will.  Why not put in another IDE interface?  These cards are cheap,  just make sure you get one that does DMA.  Video needs LOTS of consistent through-put.

At least make sure, if you use the IDE DVD that you can enable DMA on your IDE controller(s).  man hdparm or, if you have Helix Gnome (now Ximian<sp>) you can try "idetool"
