You simply need to export DISPLAY to equal the display you want the apps on.  On
the server for instance : export DISPLAY=laptop:0;xterm

If you don't want to do it manually look into "rexec" which I think is used for
such things on boxes I've seen.

You may also need to issue "xhost +server" on the laptop in order to let the
server open windows on your laptop's screen.

This should be faily secure on a LAN,  if you want "real" security you probably
need to look at someting like kerberos.
