To answer your query, yes I would like to run applications on the server but display them on the laptop.
I have a 100M ethernet lan built. I agree X over the internet would be extremely slow given my poor connection rate of 28K. I still can't get a cable modem or DSL.

> Remotely as in "across a LAN" or remotely as in "around the world"? If you mean around the world I suggest you take a look at VNC, X is far to heavy for use on the Internet.
