I could care less what Microsoft says about anything. Linux will always
remain appealing to a certain class of users. It will not die just
because Microsoft says it will.

Their FUD may scare off new potential users, be they corporate or
otherwise, but will it affect what current users are doing with Linux?
I doubt it. I don't see why it has to appeal to the masses to be
useful.
