Right,  reread the CD with cddawav and then edit it with Broadcast 2000 (a VERY
NICE Linux multimedia editor, that someone should do a presentation on), but
that seems like overkill for what I want to do.

The only thing I found (in my brief search) that looked like it did was 
http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecawave/ but I haven't tried it yet,  as it to
looks like using a sledge hammer to dial a phone.
