Re: Debian 2.2r2 and ATA 100 Promise Controllers
I don't know about Promise specifically, but the RC2 build of Progeny
(http://www.progeny.com), which is based on Debian (*), recognized my
Asus A7V's onboard ATA100 controller with its default kernel (which is
a 2.2.18 apparently with some of the nicer backpatches from 2.4, USB
is also no problem at least for the mouse I had). I feel pretty safe
in saying that if you're going with a kernel that recent you should
have little problems as long as you Google for any relevant FAQ's
(http://groups.google.com for the Usenet database acquired from Deja).
(*) The CEO of Progeny is Ian Murdock, one of the few other Ians I
know, and slightly less importantly, the 'ian' in 'Debian'. It shows
through in the quality, both in Debian and in this offspring. Give it
a shot if possible; the initial first-stage install requires VGA, but
it's easy to continue second-stage without installing X even though
that's not the default option.
