Re: interesting reply

Dennis & Sue,

Win 98 is the lesser of 3 evils as far as M$ goes. At least you can work
with it (if you want to call it that :-) Hmmmm...system will not shut
down/freezes ...could use a little more details about the machine in
question.....most of the time it is because of tooooooo many temp files
...... could aslo be a combination of the processes running in the "system
tray". I have seen people's machine where the system tray junk eats half the
task bar. I don't know if it is your machine or a friends ....but here is
another thing you can try (tho I think Linux is a much more sane option :-)

Go to the start button....choose run.....type in msconfig ...hit enter.
Msconfig is a tool ( if you can call it that ) you can use to disable any
or all services loaded in memory that are not absolutely nessacary. There is
an option to disable (or uncheck the loading of ....) startup services. If
you wish for more help I would be more than willing to work through this
outside this group (e-mail privately).

As to the reply ..... sad fact is FUD runs most of our world. The rant
seemed to me similar to an AMD versus Intel rant ..which results more in
people calling each other "doo-doo" rather than facts and figures. "Forgive
him Father......He knows not what he is saying" comes to mind ...I have
worked with many IT profesionals ( I use the term liberally here .....) and
many only know one or two facets of computers/OS (some don't even have THAT
much going for them). And to be fair, I have worked with some that I stand
in awe of. With the explosion of computers in general, odds are good you are
going to run into a lot of people who claim to be the second coming ....

It seems to me I have found a wonderful resource of peolpe here in KLUG. I
don't see the flaming/superiorty complex. I see people sharing whatever
insite (sp?) they have to help. You don't fix a computer with a sledgehammer
(tho with M$ ...might just spread those bits "n" bytes around a bit better
......LOLOL.........) .......just funnin ...

If I can help you with the M$ lemme know....

MaHk
