My problems were getting the dual monitors to work.  What your talking about
seemed a little silly at the time to me as well.  I'll have to agree with you. 
This worked though so I was happier than a clam.

If you don't define any modes I believe it defaults to what resolutions it
thinks is possible.  Then the text can get really small for me.
