IPX I think?

Hello all,
This is more a question about Windows, but not a discusion.
I am attempting to set up IPX over a home network and a Windows98 box is not 
working.
I have enabled IPX and once I changed the Frame Type to 802.3 upon rebooting 
I recieve the following error:
The following error occured while loading protocol number 0.
Error 254:

I can remove IPX and the system boots without error, but once it is reenabled 
as default or anyother settings it errors the same. 
I have attempted to read up on IPX and error codes, but have found nothing to 
help. Lots of info is available for Linux, but little real info is on the net 
for Windows.
The reason I am doing this is because I am setting it up to play network 
games in windows, so dumping IPX is not an option. It is not affecting the 
network though, and this is a good thing.
