AFAIK, you need Arcserve installed on a server (either NT or NetWare) to
restore from an Arcserve created tape. Given the fact that it's commercial
software, I kinda doubt there's any open source or free util to read it.
Unless such a util exists, you'll need to find someone running Arcserve who
is willing to let you bring the tape over, restore it to their server, then
copy it to a portable media for you to transport back. Or temporarily setup
NetWare and Arcserve again.
Based on your description of the situation however, I'd be mighty surprised
to find anything on that tape...
What backup/recovery solution do you have in place now that it is a Linux
file server? (Linux running Samba serving Win9x clients, correct?)
