Good Internet Filtering

Group,

As a school IT director we are forced by the state to have a Internet
Filtering up and running when the kids come back to school.
The other day, a IT bubba at Burr Oak Tool and Gauge showed me something
that was pretty interesting. He used Squid with Squid guard on his Linux
(Red Hat 6.2) and can limit the access to the internet.
He has a list of sites (Downloaded from a vendors website) and people
can not get to those sites. He also has a list contains the ACL for the
work. You must have a login and password to get out.
I thought that was pretty interesting and would like to check this out.
Does anyone know of another possible Internet filtering or blocking
package that I can run on a Linux box. I would like to keep Linux
running in our network but, we are finding it hard to run applications
on Linux.

Thank you,
