problems with X desktop setup

I got a Dell Dimension 8100 with a 1.3 GHz PIV and M991 monitor with video 
memory 16MB. When I tried to configure the desktop using the Xconfigurator, 
I tried all the possible options for resolution, but it dint accept any. Can 
anyone suggest any changes directly in the configuration file instead of 
using the Xconfigurator to setup X desktop. I am using RH7.0
