Try ncftp. Here's a precompiled binary for SCO OpenServer 5:

Ncftp, if you're not familiar with it has lots of bells and
whistles beyond regular ftp.

To quote the man page:

	"Some of the cooler features include progress meters, file-
	name completion, command-line editing, background process-
	ing, auto-resume downloads, bookmarking, cached
	directory listings, host redialing, working with
	firewalls and proxies, downloading entire directory
	trees, etc., etc."

It does require n-curses, but that may not be true in the
precompiled binaries.
