whelp here's the delio (for those of you who care)

in my haste to try to make the most efficient kernel i could, i answered 
NO to "enable VGA console"

the kernel was actually loading all along, just couldn't output anything 
ot the screen.

3 compiles and 3 reboots later its now working.....time for sleep....
