X on Compaq CDS520
I'm installing Linux and X on a Compaq CDS520 (15" integrated monitor, and a
Cirrus 5424 integrated video card). X configures easy and comes up without any
problems. But the screen has little horizontal "jiggle bars" whenever a
significant amount of motion takes place (moving a window, scrolling in xterm).
It's workable but rather annoying, and I intend to give this machine (and
others like it) to office workers. I've tried several Hz and Monitor configs
but none seem to affect the problem. The screen runs at 800x600x256. Any tips
would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I think I've fixed the "Die-ing in it's sleep server." I browsed the web
for several hours and ran across complaints about Linux with a Adaptec 2940
SCSI Card (actually a aic7880). I got it to be stable using a module option,
linux kernel 2.0.31, and disable-ing "Wide Negotiation" in the card's BIOS.
Thanks to Bruce and R.G.B. for your help.
