Word about the new meeting location
After talking to Chris earlier this evening, I've just posted the following
article to the local USENET groups, as shown...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: *** KLUG Moves to a NEW (GNU) Location ***
Newsgroups: net-link.linux,net-link.html,net-link.windows-nt,
net-link.kazoo.students,net-link.kazoo.announce
Summary: Local Linux group moves to a better facility
Keywords: Alternate OS, Free Software, Open Architecture, Microsoft-Free
That's right! We've outgrown our old digs, and we're leaving it behind.
Our new meeting place, starting THIS SUNDAY at 3 PM is:
Pharmacia and Upjohn (Building 298)
That's the north-east corner of Portage St. and Bishop Rd.
(Bishop is the first street that goes from Sprinkle to Portage
south of the airport)
Entrances to the parking lot are about 500 feet north (on Portage)
and 400 fet east (on Bishop) of the intersection.
There will be specific directions at the front door when you get there,
Bldg. 298 is a large glass building with a sloping front.
We'll have a technical presentation, to be decided, but most probably about
hard disk management and partitioning, along with our usual free-for-all
question and answer sessions.
All are welcome.

The KLUG web site is:
http://www.net-link.net/~troll/klug.html
It will soon be updated to reflect the new meeting place.
We have a mailing list: klug@deepthought.dyndns.com
To join, send a mail message with one line (Not the subject line!) to:
klug-request@deepthought.dyndns.com
This message should say:
subscribe <your mail address>, like this:

Posting this to global USENET groups is surely possible, but will not be
effective. The right group seems to be comp.os.linux.annouce (but if you
have other ideas, we should hear about them for publicity purposes), and
the moderator (in Finland) takes at least a day to turn it around. Add
another day (or so) for propagation and it takes us up to Saturday night.
Also, because of the PnU employee restriction, we may want to find a backup
site, or move the meeting to another location if this proves impractical.
After at least one meeting there's PLENTY of time to post more globally.
Also, Mike List has been asked to change the web page so it does not point
to Cyber-Tek any longer.
NO ONE should appear at Cyber-Tek on Sunday. If you know someone who wants
to come, please re-advise them. I am making at least two phone calls for
this purpose.... Matt has email addresses and phone numbers for some/most
newcomers; I hope he calls them, or forwards email addresses to one of us,
so we can contact new people about the move.
I know Chris will have more information tomorrow (and I trust he'll distribute
it), but it's best to get the word out a little sooner and provide the EXACT
(room-level) information later (or at the door).
Kudos to Chris for taking the initiative on this! Thanks to everyone else who
has, is, or will help keep KLUG a success.
