KLUG Minutes - 1/18/98
(Sorry for the lateness of these minutes, I had some trouble with the mailing
list sending it out)

Meeting Start Time: 3:35 pm
Number of attendees: 9
We started the meeting off with a rousing discussion on the topic of computer
magazines. Tom brought in a copy of BYTE magazine which had an article in it
about Linux, after a bit of discussion, the topic turned to Java, and weather
or not it is worth the trouble. Adam, and myself have been trying to get the
Java version of a program called ICQ working. The system requirements for this
particular program while running in Java includes having 32 megs of RAM!
A presentation on hard drive partitioning had been scheduled for this meeting,
but after a little informal vote, we switched it to configuring X Windows.
Bruce gave a very informative presentation on the topic, and we all learned
alot. If anyone has any questions about the presentation, be sure to ask
Bruce, he's the guy with the answers =)
It's time to start scheduling our presentations for the coming meetings.
Everyone should have a list of the topics we came up with, if you don't have
one, please email me and I will send you a copy. Some people have already
volunteered, but we still have plenty of topics left. On the other hand,
don't feel that you have to pick one of the pre-listed topics. If you are
knowledgeable on any topic regarding Linux, please feel free to step up to the
Mic and enlighten us.
Note for the January 25th Meeting: Scott Yellig will be presenting a talk on
the universal UNIX text file editor "VI", so be sure not to miss it.
See you all online, and in real life too!
