Organizational "Stuff"
Gentlemen:
I've attended the last two KLUG meetings only. I shan't attend the
next, due to a prior commitment in South Bend next Sunday. However, I
offer a few observations and remarks which I hope will taken to be
constructive. Feel free to take offense and share it 'round the group -
I'm old enough, self-assured enough, and when needed asshole enough not
to have my "feelings hurt" by negative responses.
I prefer to take people at "face-value," while providing for my own
personal security in ways that detect and defend against subterfuge. I
pay my way. I vote, against more often than for, but I step up to the
"batter's box" every time. I want "citizens" who demonstrate a devotion
to the positive promotion of active and proactive involvement in the
systems in which I participate. Those are my general leanings, and,
having stated them, I now suggest how they reflect on the issues at hand
with KLUG.
We live in an extremely "e" world. If you can't make the meetings (not
"e"), you should be able to use e-mail or the phone (ancient "e") to
make contact with the group. When it comes to contact with any group, I
suggest that the membership should be based on CONTACT as some variation
of the following:
- physical presence at meetings
- voting on issues via e-mail or phone
- submissions of points of interest "re" Linux from the web or hard
publications
- technical articles (from unexpected places) or presentations of
personal
interest
- money
How about the following scheme for KLUG:
- start-up is "automatic"...thereafter...
- attend one-third of the meetings in any six months
- respond with opinions and/or votes on at least half the issues
presented (BY SOME MEANS)
- articles, presentations, web-directions to "cool" (PERTINENT) sights
- $20 (or some other amount) annually
Since I won't be a voting member, under the scheme to which my voice
lost on Sunday, and I won't be able to vote in person next Sunday,
regardless, le' me know. Feel free to kick my name around casually; I
won't be offended. Remember, if I'm offensively radical for your
tastes, limit your rebukes to my ideas not my personal life (I'm 6'1"and
225 lb, after all).
