zipping/unzipping

     Hi,
     
     I'm currently downloading a 2.5 Meg file that's stored as 
     .tar.gz.  I'd like to split this file using pkzip onto a couple 
     of FAT diskettes, then, unzip them onto my Linux file system, 
     recombining them in the process, for further decompression.
     
     Will gunzip handle this?  If not, anybody have any suggestions?
