RHS Linux User
March 1998 Issue #6

March is here, and for us Red Hatters in NC it means wonderful spring weather
and, as usual, lots of activity!

 o AWARDS!

Probably the most notable of announcements is that Red Hat has won two awards
recently. The first was given to us by Infoworld for Network Operating System
Product of the Year. This was a great honor for us as we also won Best Desktop
OS from Infoworld last year. More info on this year's award is available at:
http://www.infoworld.com/cgi-bin/displayTC.pl?/97poy.win3.htm#linux
Just two weeks later Red Hat was recognized at the Software Development Show
in San Francisco with the "Productivity" award in the "Special" category of
its Jolt Awards. More on this at:
http://www.redhat.com/news/news-details.phtml?id=59
It is important to also mention that Infoworld gave its Best Technical Support
Award to the entire Linux community. Details on this achievement are at:
http://www.infoworld.com/cgi-bin/displayTC.pl?97poy.supp.htm

 o New Red Hat Products

We've got two new products available. Motfi 2.1 is now available. Check:
http://www.redhat.com/news/news-details.phtml?id=61 for more information.

You can also get a multiple license pack for Red Hat Linux, Applixware, and
Motif. Details are at: http://www.redhat.com/news/news-details.phtml?id=60

 o Road Tour Update

Next week we will be visiting the LA area for the Spring Internet World show
and Part 2 of our El Nino Challenge segment of the Road Tour. Check our Road
Tour page for appearances at User Groups etc.
http://www.redhat.com/redhat/tour/nino2.html

Upcoming segments include a stint in Chicago during the Spring Comdex Show. We
will most likely be in town beginning April 18th through the 24th. If your
group would like to see us, or if you know of interesting resellers, press,
ISV's, hardware partners etc. that we should see, drop me a note and we'll try
to get you scheduled.

 o LINUX EXPO UPDATE

For those of you who haven't registered, you better hurry up! ;-) It's
creeping upon us at a moderately fast pace now and stuff is starting to get
full. Corporate sponsors of this year's show include: Caldera, LI, Linux
Hardware Solutions, Red Hat, and Solid. Exhibitors include: Corel, NAG, Suse,
Cyclades, EST, and many others. The line-up of speakers and tutorials is by far
the greatest attraction though. Get a chance to meet and chat with the likes
of Alan Cox, David Miller, Lars Wirzenius, and even Linus himself. This event
is complete with a paintball tournie, Quake Fest, and food and merriment at
a reception to be held Thursday night at Duke's Devil's Den. You can't miss
out on all this fun AND a trip to NC in wonderful May! All the information you
need to sign up is at http://www.linuxexpo.org

 o User Group Program Update

This is just an FYI but our listing is up to 100 groups in just six months.
I am impressed with the number of you that are joining almost every day. Keep
it up! If you know of groups who haven't signed up please encourage them to do
so as we feel our listing is a great service to users all over and it provides
publicity for both Red Hat and each perspective group. I hope that you all
find this letter informative and I am very open to any suggestions that you
may have to improve both the letter and the program.

Until next month,

Those on the CC list have expressed interest in the Kalamazoo Linux Users
Group, although they have not yet signed up for the mailing list.

If you would like to either add or remove yourself from this list, please
visit our web site (http://klug.armintl.com), and do so. While you're
there, you may want to look around a little!
