X Term Oddity (resource issue?)

I use a font called 'vga' when running  x-term,  in order to get the same
character set I get when using PC-PLUS terminal emulation on a DOS PC.
This work great except when something is in bold/standout xterm double
strikes the font,  which looks putrid.
According to the man page the paramater +bdc (Bold Do Color) will make
xterm display bold as another color instead of overstriking,  but nothing
happens.
I also have the following resources in /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm

*VT100*colorBDMode: on
...
*VT100*colorBD: yellow

but that didn't help either.  I have restarted X, etc, etc..
Does anyone know how to make this work.
